Let fellow fly fishers know how you got on at Monikie
So if you've had a good day at Monikie, why not drop us an email at admin@monikie-angling-club.org.uk to let us know how you got on? We’d be delighted to hear from you.
Please remember that once anglers have kept their allocated rod limit of fish they must stop fishing and leave the water.
Where fishing catch and release (using barbless or de-barbed hooks) anglers must stop fishing when they have their limit, and have released 15 fish.
RETURNS 2026
Week Ending April 25
Another week of great fly fishing at Monikie with almost all sessions seeing some cracking sport.
Successful flies and tactics still favour lures down deep with Blobs, Fabs, and Boobies taking fish. Some also taken on Buzzers and Cormorants on sink tip lines. Ally McCoist is still the most popular fly, but Hot-head Damsel, Humoungus and black-green lures also worked well.
Fish are also being been taken nearer the surface with some rises of fish seeing good catches on Cormorants, Diawl Bachs, Snatchers, buzzers – and some on dry fly.
The best fish recorded was a cracker at 4 lbs 12 ozs caught by Andy Strachan, just beating one at 4 lbs 11 ozs caught by Alex Murray in the same boat!

Successful flies and tactics have been variable with lures, Blobs, Fabs, and Boobies taking fish, generally deep on Di 3-7.
However, with buzzers showing on the surface, several fish were taken on Buzzers and Cormorants on sink tip lines.

Ben Bosch had the only fish of the day, a lovely rainbow weighing in at 2 lbs 8 ozs, which fell to a Blob fished slow and deep.
A disappointing start, brightened up by very tasty mince rolls lovingly prepared by Brian and Ian.
Interestingly, the following day, when there was hardly a breath of wind, 4 rods kept 17 fish for 36 pounds and returned another 4!
All fish caught deep on Boobies.
Between the two sluices appeared to be the hotspot.
Following that the weather turned cold, wet and windy with only one boat out during the rest of the week.
Island Pond.
16 boats, 22 rods catching 18 fish for 38 lbs 8 ozs, 4 returned.
