Monikie Angling Club

"Probably the best value fly fishing in Scotland!"

WELCOME TO MONIKIE ANGLING CLUB

North Pond re-opening – see News

Important information for all members and visitors

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, writes Club President Ian McLean, we have been unable to source fish to carry out the last stocking of the season.
The Committee has therefore taken the decision to lower prices until the end of the season.
From tomorrow, 29th September, members will be charged £10 per person, visitors £15 per person.
There are still a good number of fish in the Island Pond, but they are proving difficult to tempt.
We have also provisionally ordered more stock for next season.
Hopefully you will manage to fish before the season ends, weather permitting, in November.

WELCOME to Monikie Angling Club.
"Probably the best value fly fishing in Scotland"!
Formed in 1976, the club is located in Monikie Country Park, a few miles from Dundee.
If you’re searching for some of the best trout fly fishing in the East of Scotland – and beyond – you've come to the right place.
Season 2020 re-opened on Sunday May 31.
Normal session dates and times are posted below, but we are operating day sessions only and evening sessions until Saturday August 22. SEE HERE FOR TEMPORARY RE-OPENING SESSION TIMES.
Boat prices are published here.
You can join/rejoin the club by downloading our Season 2020 application form.
To book a boat, please phone the Bailiff on 01382 370300, any day, 9.00 am – 10.30 am, 1.00 pm – 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm – 6.30 pm (later time during double session only and NOT during re-opening phase).
There is disabled parking at the Bailiff’s hut at the Island Pond for the use of Blue Badge holders, and anglers who have been issued, a Club Parking Permit.
Other anglers – members and visitors – may also park here if space allows. If not, anglers can drive down, drop off their gear, then drive back to the public car park.
See also PARKING GUIDELINES, RE-OPENING GUIDELINES and CLUB POLICIES.
Barrows are also available to transport your stuff from the public car park to the jetty.

* The parks are administered by ANGUSalive and provide a large variety of facilities.

Boat fishing only

The Club provides fly fishing for brown and rainbow trout in two ponds – they’re known as ponds but are huge loch-size stretches of water. The bailiff's hut (complete with tea, coffee and microwave facilities) is located beside the Island Pond in Monikie Country Park.
We have 18 boats (12 on the Island Pond, 6 on the North) available to members and visitors; including visiting clubs.
Anglers are welcome to use their own electric outboard motors, but none are available for hire.

Please note it is fly fishing only. No bank fishing is permitted. Please also note that only club boats can be used for angling, and no anchoring is permitted.
Also, anglers must wear a lifejacket at all times while on the water. This can be their own, or one provided by the club. See conditions below.

Session dates

The re-opened 2020 fly fishing session dates are:
Day session, Island Pond . . . . . May 31 – November 14
Day session, North Pond . . . . . Not yet re-opened
Evening Session . . . Island Pond only, until Saturday August 22.

Session times

***NEW GUIDELINES HERE FOR RE-OPENING SESSION TIMES***
Day session, 09.30 am – 4.30 pm.
Evening session, 5.00 pm – closing time advertised at bailiff’s hut.
Half day session (NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE), 09.00 am – 12.30 pm and 1.00 pm – 4.30 pm.

Full session boats can be booked 14 days in advance, half day session boats, (once things return to normal) one day in advance. Single angler boats, two days in advance.
Lifejackets must be worn on top of clothing at all times. You can wear your own, provided it is activated automatically by a CO2 device and you have signed our Disclaimer form, or they are available free of charge at the Bailiff's hut.

There are some big fish in the Monikie waters with last season's heaviest weighing in at 6 lb 15 oz.
One thing that is certain about all of Monikie's fish – they are all high quality, fully finned, hard fighting trout.

To paraphrase a well know TV advert, club members widely consider Monikie to offer:
