Let fellow fly fishers know how you got on at Monikie

We're always keen to let everyone know how the fly fishing is going at Monikie Angling Club.
So if you've had a good day at Monikie, why not drop us an email at admin@monikie-angling-club.org.uk to let us know how you got on? We’d be delighted to hear from you.
Please remember that once anglers have kept their allocated rod limit of fish they must stop fishing and leave the water.
Where fishing catch and release (using barbless or de-barbed hooks) anglers must stop fishing when they have their limit, and have released 15 fish.

RETURNS 2025

Week Ending May 26

Excellent sport this week on the Island Pond with fish feeding on or near the surface, and lots of fly life.
But it should be remembered the limit for catch and release is 15 per angler after which you must stop fishing.
This rule is to prevent damage to fish and to combat them being caught too frequently.
The fish appear eager to take a fly, but equally eager to spit it out! They’re fighting hard, not inclined to give up easily.
Successful lines included Floating, Sink Tip and Midge Tip lines as fish are fairly high in the water looking for food.
Coupled with Buzzers, Top-hat buzzers, Red and Black Nymph, Sunburst Fab, Tequila Fab, Crippled Midge, Hoppers, Diawl Bach, Crunchers, Orange Blob, Hot head Damsel, Ally McCoist, Alexandra, Midas, Dunkeld, or Hare’s Lug, they’ve been fished to great effect. Dry flies also proved successful.

Things are really hotting up on the Island Pond, with fish being taken in all areas of the water, particularly in the margins. Evening sessions also picking up with some good catches in the last hour.
But some anglers are catching and releasing more than the limit of 15 fish.
THIS IS AGAINST CLUB RULES.
When you have caught and released 15 fish you MUST come off the water.

Successful lines include floating, midge tip and intermediate, which, coupled with Dunkeld, Diawl Bach, Snatchers, small Cats Whisker, Damsels, and small black and green lures, proved to be the most productive combinations with fish often taking just sub-surface.
