Some great sport is to be had at the moment, especially on the North pond. A variety of lines and flies have been taking fish but some of the most successful patterns have been: Dawson's Olive; Black & green gold-heads; Purple Cormorants; Green Peter; Silver Invicta and Kate McLarens. There have also been reports of a few big fish breaking folks off in the weed; so be prepared.
------------------------

8/10/17 Cracking few hours on the North today. Came off at 13:00 weighed in 2 for 4.5lbs and returned a further 5. Most fish came to a black& green gold head fished on a sink tip. Great to see all the boats on the North out and I think the majority of them had fish when I came off.

W/E 7/10/17
Island Pond  - 19 boats, 34 rods, keeping 46 fish for 92lbs plus many fish returned
North Pond - 3 boats, 4 rods, keeping 6 fish for 13lbs plus fish returned

Clubs Out:
Barrys AC with 4 boats on the Island pond keeping 16 fish for 32lbs 12oz.
NCR AC with 2 boats on the Island pond keeping 1 fish for 2lbs 11oz.

The weather yet again played a part in this week's returns with one day being lost to high winds. In general, sink tip lines seem to be the order of the day with Yellow Dancers, Dawson's Olive, Black&green gold-heads and Silver Cormorants all taking fish. The fish are feeding heavily on the large shoals of minnows that are present on both the Island and North ponds.
A reminder that the club has introduced half day sessions for the remainder of the season; single angler 10, two anglers 20. This offer is only available to club members; full details are available on the Club News page.

The weather played a part in this week's returns with one day being lost to bad weather. In general, sink tip lines seem to be the order of the day with Dawson's Olive, Crunchers, Cats Whiskers and Cormorants all taking fish. The fish now seem to be feeding quite heavily on minnows.
Another couple of the bigger fish were caught this week with B. Paterson of the Aberdour club having a cracker of 4lbs 12oz (which wins him fish of the month for September) and K. Giblin having a very nice fish of 4lbs 1oz; both off the Island pond.

Messrs Grimond & Grimond on the Island pond returning 6 fish.
R. Keith & D. Byrne on the Island pond keeping 7 fish for 12lbs 9oz.

The cooling weather has brought about both an improvement in the water quality, and an improvement in the fishing on MAC waters. In general, sink tip lines seem to be the order of the day with Yellow Dancers, black & green Nomads, Crunchers, Cats Whiskers and Cormorants all taking lots of fish. The fish now seem to be feeding quite heavily on minnows, but are still willing to take a sedge pattern when the conditions are right.
A few of the bigger fish have shown up in recent weeks with D. Brown having a fish of 4lbs 8oz off the North and I. Duffus having a fish of 4lbs 6oz. off the Island pond.
-----------------------------

The weather hasn't helped the fishing this week with one day being lost to high winds and the bright sunshine also not helping matters. Intermediate lines were the most successful, with flies ranging from Vivas to orange and pink blobs taking fish.

Fish of the month for August had joint winners, with A.Murray and K.Dickson both weighing in fish of 2lbs 14oz; although I know that bigger fish were returned.

The final stocking of the season took place this weekend with several hundred fish, including lots of big fish, being put into both the North and Island ponds.

The weather has again played its part in the fishing on MAC waters, with the cooler conditions resulting in less fly life hatching off and consequently fewer fish showing on the surface. One member had a fish finder and reported large shoals of fish fairly deep down. However not all of them are deep and many anglers have been fishing floaters or midge tips; though some have resorted to fast glass to get their fish. Again a variety of flies took fish this week including; sedge imitations, pink blobs and PTN.

A reminder that this week sees the end of the evening sessions for this season.
-------------------------------

14/8/17 Well the nights might be drawing in, but there is still plenty of light to catch Monikie troot by. Bailiff duty tonight, I kept 2 for 4lbs 9oz ( including a cracking blue of 2lbs 12oz.) and returned 3. Not bad for 2.5 hours on the water. Not a lot of fish showing tonight so I moved around the pond looking for feeding fish. Most of them came to s sparkly green sedge pattern on a midge tip. Came off a bit early as the heavens opened.

The fish of the month for July went to J. Gibb with a fish of 3lbs `3oz. off the Island pond.
------------------------------

1/8/17 - Bailiff Broon was on duty last night and another good night's sport was had. Weather was pretty grim at the 6:30 with heavy rain and gusting wind so delayed going out until 7:00 when the skies cleared. As per day session not a lot of fish were showing but the were there. I kept 2 and returned 4 all on a small white cat on a sink tip. As the light faded later a few fish started to show and I had a few swirls at a green peter. The one angler on the North returned 4, all to the yellow owl CDC. All the day boats also had fish.

The recent stocking has freshened the fishing up on MAC waters, and although not a lot of fish are showing on the surface they are not too deep down and seem to be willing to come to the fly. A variety of flies took fish this week including; damsels, Di Bach, Hare's Lugs, Yellow Dancer and Coral Boobies.

The fish of the month for June went to R. McClellan with a 5lb blue off the Island pond.

Notable catches include:
J. Stewart on the Island pond who kept 5 fish for 9lbs 08oz.
F. Chalmers on the Island pond who kept 5 fish for 9lbs 02oz.

Generally the fish were not very deep down, as could be seen in the large number of fish rising when the ponds went flat calm, and a sink/midge tip line tended to be all that was needed. Sedges and hoppers continue to account for a lot of the fish caught. However, as the fish start to feed on the large shoals of fry, lures such as the Yellow Dancer, Dawson's Olive and black&green gold-heads are starting to entice a fair number of fish.
The single angler who ventured out on Crombie this week reported masses of smaller trout feeding on the surface, with the larger fish just coming on to the feed as he left.
----------------------------

10/7/17 Another cracking but challenging evening on the Island pond for bailiff Broon tonight. Flat calm for most of the evening and fish rising everywhere. However they were being very picky. We kept 3 and returned 5, lost a couple and missed a couple. Most of our fish came to small ginger hoppers. Great night.

The day boats reported similar action but with fewer fish showing. Most of the fish were taken on dries, cdc's and hoppers. Duncan Inglis reported that he was getting better takes to sz10 hoppers rather than his usual 12 & 14.

W.Milne on the North pond who returned 5 fish.
A.Murray & A.Strachan on the Island pond who kept 5 fish for 9lbs 08oz and returned a further 4.
P.Christie & G.Keir on the Island pond who kept 7 fish for 23lbs.
A.Philip on the Island pond who kept 5 fish for 10lbs 02oz.

A few bigger fish have come off the ponds this week including J.Gibb who had a fish of 3lbs 13oz off the North pond and A.McAlister who had one of 3lbs 12oz off the Island pond.
Generally the fish were not very deep down, as could be seen in the large number of fish rising when the ponds went flat calm, and a sink/midge tip line tended to be all that was needed; though some folk did have success fishing deeper. Successful flies included: green gold-heads, sedges and hare's lugs.
------------------------------

3/7/17 Bailiff Broon on duty again this evening and after a hard day for the day bailiff it didn't sound too promising. However it turned out to be another great night. The 5 boats out kept 15 fish for just under 30lbs and 9 fish were returned. I kept 1 and returned 7, with all my fish coming to a sparkly green sedge. For the last hour or so large areas of the pond were flat calm and these areas boiled with fish, however the were difficult to tempt, though it was fun trying. Surprisingly I think that most folk caught there fish before "the rise" started.

J.Bannister on the Island pond who returned 7 fish.
K.Forbes on the Island pond who kept 5 for 9lbs 9oz.
Messrs Crabbe & Crabbe who returned 17 fish on the Island pond.

Yet again I have to report that the weather adversely impacted conditions on MAC waters last week, but when the high winds dropped and folks ventured out they were rewarded with some excellent fishing. Generally the fish were not very deep down and a sink/midge tip line tended to be all that was needed; though some folk did have success fishing deeper. Successful flies included: pheasant tailed nymph, sedges, cormorants, bibios, snatchers, cat's whiskers, small boobies (fished top of water) and squirmies. In general anything with a bit of black&green in it seemed to get fish.
There are large shoals of minnows to be seen, especially around the weed beds, and it can be expected that the bigger fish will be feeding on them.

The weather has again impacted the fishing on MAC waters with strong winds and a bright sun making fishing tricky at times. D. Simpson had a good day on the North pond returning 6 fish, while P.Kilminster & M.Tidcome had 6 for 12lbs 14oz off the Island pond. Roddy Cameron had a very nice fish of 4lbs 7oz off the North pond.
There is certainly no shortage of fish in the ponds, as I witnessed on Monday evening when it went flat calm and fish could be seen rising over the entire Island pond, and just to top it up there was a further stocking at the weekend.
-----------------------

19/6/17 Bit of a challenging evening for Bailiff Broon with a cool NE breeze keeping the fish down deep early on. However once the breeze dropped there were fishing rising all over the pond. We returned 4 and I lost 1 along with my entire cast ( that'll teach me not to check my knots). Fish came to a small black and green booby or a sparkly sedge pattern, both fished on top of the water.

Kilminster had a nice fish of 4lbs off the Island Pond, while R. McClelland had a lovely 5lb blue off of the North pond. The flies and lines have varied depending on the weather, but some of the more successful flies have been snatchers, olive damsels and gold-head hare's lug.

Friday evening saw the anglers competing for the Brymner Trophy. With bright sunshine and then a flat calm the conditions weren't perfect, but with fish rising all over the pond a great challenging night of fishing was had. The winner was Dave Simpson who kept 2 and returned 7, 2nd place went to Jim Strachan who kept 2 and returned 5.

A few bigger fish came off last week with Duncan Inglis having a cracker of 4lbs 12oz off the Island Pond while Harold Lewis had a lovely 3lbs 12oz fish off the North Pond.

With the weather conditions varying throughout the week the successful methods for catching fish varied from floating lines with dries through to DI-5 with blobs and lures. In general, the most successful flies last week were buzzers, blobs, cormorants and yellow dancers.
--------------------------

29/5/17 Bailiff Broon on duty this evening, and following on from Duncan's cracking day, we had a cracking evening. Weather wasn't too kind with a cold NE breeze and passing showers but the fishing was great. We came off at the back of 9 when it looked like the rain was settling in but by that time we'd kept 3 for 9lbs, returned 10 and missed a few. Floating lines all evening with most of the fish coming to a green peter or a small black & green booby.

Friday evening saw the final of the club championship, and in very difficult conditions Barend Bosche managed 5 fish for 9lbs 09oz to become the club champion; well done Barend! Second place went to Robert Gibson with Neil Anderson in third.

The varying weather conditions made fishing a little bit tougher with anglers having to deal with everything from flat calms through to torrential rain with thunder and lightning. During the flat calms fish could be seen rising all over the Island Pond, but were tricky to catch. The most successful methods last week were floating or midge tip lines paired up with buzzers, Hares Ear, Crunchers, mini Boobies (black & green being particularly successful), Yellow Owls and Black Spiders.
----------------------------------

22/5/17 -  Bailiff Broon was on duty again tonight. A flat calm made the fishing challenging though we managed to keep 3, return 4 and lose a couple. Fish could be seen rising over the entire pond, but we're very picky. We got most of ours on a small black&agreements booby on a floating line. The only other boat out had 2. The evening came to a crashing end with thunder and lightning and even a funnel cloud. You've got to love Mother Nature's sense of humour.

The day session on Monday was unfishable due to the Wind, however the evening session provided some superb top on the water fishing for the Bailiff boat with fish rising all over the Island pond, pity it was the only boat out!!! It's good to see the evening sessions picking up with some good catches being made on both the Island and North. Last week, 80 day anglers caught over 317 fish including those returned while 36 evening anglers took 156 fish, again including those returned.
Some good fish came off last week including Alex Murray with a 3lb 8oz brown off the Island and D Simpson with a stunning 4lb 8oz rainbow off the North.
While various methods took fish last week, buzzers continue to provide most of the sport. Midge tip lines or floaters with, Cormorants, Hares Ear, Traffic light buzzers, Crunchers, Snatchers, Orange Blobs, mini Boobies and small Black & Green lures, were taking fish, while in the colder bright days the fish went down but could be contacted with the same mix of buzzers etc fished of a fast glass line and Orange blobs. The day Bailiff boat today, Monday 22 May had a cracking day taking 6 fish for 12lbs 8oz plus about a dozen returned. These were mostly taken on dry size 14 black Shipman's and CDC Yellow owl, then when the sun came out on buzzers fished off a floater or midge tip - great top of the water sport.
-------------------------

15/5/17 - Bailiff Broon was on duty tonight. After the wind and rain kept the day bailiff off the water we had a fantastic evening; the only slight issue being a flat calm for long periods. During these calms fish could be see rising over the entire pond. We kept 1 and returned LOTS with the fish taking CDC and very small boobies on floating lines.

Despite the cold windy weather Monikie continued to fish very well last week with 81 day anglers taking over 474 fish including those returned and 11 evening anglers taking 46 fish, overall another great weeks fishing especially given the weather and the fact that 6 sessions, the equivalent of 3 full days fishing, were lost due to the high winds.

A number of good fish were again caught last week including P Walls with a 4lb 8oz rainbow and W Clark with a 4lb 12oz rainbow, both off the Island. Some anglers have also been taking fish with lures fished off a DI3 line.

Today, Monday 1 May, while again very cold and with a fresh easterly wind, saw all the boats out taking fish, these mainly on buzzers but one angler also caught getting fish on small lures fished off a DI3. The bailiff boat kept 5 fish and returned 19, the fish mainly taking T/Light buzzer, PT buzzer with a red rib, these fished below dries, which fish also took, these being either a brown hopper or black crippled midge.

3/4/17 - Just back from another cracking visit to the North pond. My partner and I kept 9 for 22lbs, returned 6 and lost/missed a few. Casting to feeding fish for most of the day, but they were being very picky. We eventually cracked it and small PTN and Green Peters did the business for us.

Monikie fished its socks off last week with 89 anglers taking over 470 fish including those returned, overall a brilliant weeks fishing on both the Island and North. Only 1 fisher was out on Crombie last week but he caught 7 browns all of which were returned.
Fast Glass or Di3 lines are still working, however most success is coming to midge tip lines. There has been large hatches of buzzers all week with Black & Green lures, small Humungus, cormorants, Pheasant Tail and Traffic light buzzers being the taking flies.
Today, Monday 3 April, while cold, the buzzer hatch continued with the Bailiff boat keeping 4 fish and returning 3, plus fish lost, this midge tip lines, fishing PT buzzer with a red rib, Cormorant and Traffic Light buzzer. Others had success with a small Humungus fish on an intermediate. Anglers on the North had rising fish to cast to all day, however they proved difficult to tempt with dries but took PT or black buzzers and a green peter.
Swallows made an appearance in the afternoon and were making the most of the buzzers that were hatching.

Despite two days being lost due to high winds, Monikie fished well last week with 57 anglers taking over 250 fish including those returned.
Fast Glass or Di3 lines are still proving to be the most successful, with Black & Green lures, Nomads, Humungus, Orange Blobs and Hothead Damsels being the taking flies.
However later in the week with the warmer weather and lighter winds, floaters and midge tips with Diawl Bach's, Cormorants and buzzers have also worked when fish have been seen rising to large hatches of buzzers.
Today, Monday 27th the Bailiff boat kept 4 fish and returned over a dozen plus fish lost, using floater and midge tip lines, fishing PT buzzer with a red rib, Cormorant and Traffic Light buzzer. The fish were lying 2 to 3 feet down meaning a fast glass intermediate line was going past them. Not many fish were rising to the hatched insects but rather they appeared to be taking the buzzer as it rose to the surface.

20/3/17 - Dave Roy - Fantastic North
Despite sunshine and winds gusting up to 40m.p.h. the fish were biting hard all day. With the aide of a drogue and watching my casting due to the swirling wind, I had a cracking day. An intermediate line with a olive damsel and a black hopper turned out to be the answer. although there was little left of them by mid afternoon when I packed up. It just goes to show you can never tell what the fishing is going to be like, until you try. All fish were safely returned, so they are still there to be caught, good luck.

Despite the strong winds over the first days of the season the Island and North have been fishing their socks off for those anglers that braved the wind. On the Island, which has been more exposed to the wind, Di3 or Fast Glass lines have proved to be the most successful, with Black & Green lures, Nomads, Orange Blobs and Hothead Damsels being the taking flies. The North has been more sheltered and while Di3 and fast glass lines with the same flies have been taking fish, floaters and midge tips with Diawl Bach's and buzzers have also worked when fish have been seen rising in the sheltered areas.
----------------------

17/3/17 - Had my first visit of the season to Monikie today. Fished the North pond to try and get a bit of shelter from the cold wind. Had an absolutely cracking few hours. Kept 2 for 4lbs 12 and returned 9 (not bad for 3 hours) including a lovely brownie of around 3lbs. Casting to moving fish for most of the morning. Dawl Bachs on a sink tip with very small black& green booby on the point was what did the business. Great few hours, but bloomin' cold.
